Explanation
This explanation is either missing or incomplete. |
The giant gorilla here is a reference to King Kong, the titular character of a 1933 film, who climbs the Empire State Building (as seen in the comic). In the comic, Ted is implied to have been unaware of King Kong's presence, instead ironically pointing out the sale at Macy's because a 50% off sale as a marketing technique is not unusual, so it would be absurd for someone to make a big deal out of it in public.
