Title text: Hallowed be thy name, Steve. |
Votey[edit]
Explanation[edit]
The real, personal name of Abraham's god is Yahweh, which is considered so holy by Jews and some Christians, that they think it shouldn't be written willy-nilly but only in copies of the Bible, and that it oughtn't be spoken out loud at all. Thus a child (or adult) raised into one of those religions would likely be offended by someone irreverently reciting the holy name, which is, infact, not "Steve", a very common name for mortal men that is written and spoken out loud very often.
The caption references the tendency of fathers to pull pranks and practical jokes on their children.
Transcript[edit]
- [A slightly shocked-looking child stands on a checkered floor facing his father, who is depicted as a silhouette. The child complains:]
- Mom! Dad! It was horrible! People kept using the Lᴏʀᴅ's name in vain!
- [Under the single panel, there is a caption.]
- Dad prank #24334: Convincing your son that God's real name is Steve.
Votey Transcript[edit]
- [The child's father is shouting angrily.]
- Stevedammit!
