This is actually an ability of chickens. The famous chicken [[wikipedia:Mike the Headless Chicken|Mike]] lived for 18 months, as its owner didn't behead it properly. This comic is yet another depiction of [[Clowns (character)|clowns]] as a distinct human species in SMBC.
